Boss impressed by Brentford progress
Brentford boss Mark Warburton was pleased as well as frustrated after his side’s goalless draw against Wigan Athletic.
The Bees secured a point in their first meeting with Wigan since former boss Uwe Rosler moved from Griffin Park to join the Latics.
While Warburton admitted he would have been happy with a point at the DW Stadium at the start of the season, Brentford’s first-half efforts left him wanting more.
Andre Gray lobbed the best chance onto the roof of the net, while both Moses Odubajo and Jota tested keeper Scott Carson.
“After the first half we were disappointed and that is pleasing for us, because we can come to a place of this strength and be disappointed with a point,” Warburton said.
“We have come a long way in a short period of time. I thought we were very good first half and I was pleased with how we controlled the ball and disappointed we did not get the reward for that.”
Rosler had taunts directed at him from both sets of fans, jeers from Wigan supporters as their winless run extended to seven matches and chants of “boring” from Bees fans.
“I’ve been in the business long enough. I will not lose any sleep on that,” Rosler said.
“Obviously in the first half it wasn’t good enough and in the second half we got slightly better. We have to work on our game.
“Both teams could have won today. In the first half especially Brentford were the better team and overall we also have to say were the better team.
“In the second half we had good momentum, had spells, but we never really had that dynamic edge.”
The draw leaves Brentford 10th in the table, seven points and nine places ahead of Wigan.
