Brentford manager Uwe Rosler has hit back at Karleigh Osborne after the unsettled defender claimed the club had kept him in the dark over his future.
Osborne, a graduate of the Bees’ youth system who has been at the club for over 10 years, is expected to leave Griffin Park and has suggested he did not receive a response following initial contract talks.
But Rosler insists there has been contact with Osborne’s agent, who was informed that the club simply cannot meet the player’s demands.
“We offered Karleigh a contract in December with a 30 per cent pay rise and we didn’t hear anything for three weeks,” Rosler said after his side’s 0-0 draw at home to struggling Walsall.
“We offered him the same as Sam Saunders and Gary Alexander; a one-year deal with an easy number of games to earn an extention. So, basically, a two-year contract.
“After that we heard back and his agent was asking for a pay rise that was miles away from what we offered.
“We have spoken back to Karleigh. He said we haven’t spoken to him, which isnt true, but we told his agent that we cannot give him what he is asking for. What Karleigh is asking for is too far apart.”
