Boss hails McGinn after Brentford win
Brentford boss Uwe Rosler singled Niall McGinn out for praise after his team’s 5-0 thrashing of Leyton Orient.
Sam Saunders scored two of the goals, but McGinn also found the net and Rosler insisted the on-loan Celtic midfielder was the man of the match.
“It was a top-class performance from Niall McGinn who, over 90 minutes, was our best player,” said Rosler.
“Niall was terrific – although Sam Saunders will hit the headlines and I think that will give him a big boost. He [Saunders] is a confidence player.”
Brentford’s victory was their third in four League One matches under Rosler, making this their best start to a season for six years.
They were caused plenty of problems in the first half but were ruthless in the second, with Leon Legge and Marcus Bean also getting on the scoresheet.
Strikers Clayton Donaldson and Gary Alexander were not among the goals, but Rosler was pleased with their displays.
The German said: “Clayton Donaldson got a very important goal on Tuesday and he worked very hard again.
“And we know what we’ll get from Gary Alexander – the work he’s putting in is immense and, as long as we’re creating chances. I’ll be happy.”
“In the first half I felt Leyton Orient were the better team and they deserved to get more out of that first half.
“The second goal helped us to settle our nerves, then we started to play the way we wanted to play.”
