Bidwell keen to emulate Everton star
Jake Bidwell hopes a new training programme will help him develop the attacking side of his game and emulate Everton’s Leighton Baines.
The 20-year-old was an understudy to Baines at Goodison Park before moving to Brentford, where Bidwell signed a permanent deal this summer after impressing while on loan.
And Bidwell, who has enjoyed an excellent start to the season, has revealed he has made changes to his training in order to improve certain aspects of his game.
He explained: “I’ve made a couple of changes to my programme, focusing on more power-based stuff and I’m feeling the benefits of it.
“First and foremost I’m a defender, and I’ve been trying to improve myself defensively with more strength and fitness work.
“But on top of that I look to help out in attack as much as I can as well – it’s an important aspect of a full-back’s game.”
Bidwell added: “Obviously Leighton Baines is the perfect role model for me.
“We were at the same club, so I used to see how he works and he’s an England international now.
“You’ve got to aspire to be like him. He’s played at the highest level.”
