Charlton 2 Brentford 0
Brentford battled hard but were unable to upset League One leaders Charlton at The Valley.
After the kick-off was delayed for 15 minutes because of a power failure, Michael Morrison put the Addicks ahead midway through the first half when he headed home Danny Holland’s cross.
Brentford created chances and arguably deserved a point, but their hopes of getting one were crushed when Danny Green sidefooted past goalkeeper Richard Lee in the final minute.
The Bees were outstanding on their last visit to Charlton, crushing them 3-0 in a totally one-sided Johnstone’s Paint Trophy encounter in October.
But the Addicks have been superb in the league and are now five points clear at the top of the table, so this was always likely to be a much tougher test for the visitors.
But they worried their opponents for large parts of the game, not least when Niall McGinn and Leon Legge both went close for Uwe Rosler’s side.
And the best chance of an equaliser fell to Marcus Bean, who fired wide from nine yards out.
Johnnie Jackson hit the post for Charlton before Green’s tidy finish put the game beyond Brentford’s reach.
