Striker Will Grigg has admitted his confidence has been affected by a difficult start to his Brentford career.
The summer signing from Walsall, who was one of League One’s top scorers last season, has netted just two goals in 13 appearances since his arrival at Griffin Park.
He has been hampered by an injury, which he has now recovered from, and insists playing out-of-position in a wide role is not a problem.
“It’s not my natural position but you have to do it for the team. I’ve got no problem with that,” Grigg told West London Sport.
“Playing central suits my play more, but I’m happy to play anywhere across the front three – I just want to play.
“I’m over the injury. I’m still working on fitness and stuff but it’s just a case of getting a bit of confidence up.
“You can’t be playing well all the time and it’s not like I’ve become a bad player overnight. I’m just going through one of those dips in form.
“I’ve just got to keep plugging away, keep working hard in training and in games, and maybe a goal going in off someone’s shin or something might help.”
Grigg struggled to make an impact in Tuesday’s win at Bristol City, where late goals from Sam Saunders and Clayton Donaldson secured the Bees’ second victory in as many matches.
The Northern Ireland international was taken off eight minutes into the second half.
He said: “We changed personnel after about five minutes – I started up top on my own and then went out wide – and then it was a disappointing performance for me personally.
“I didn’t have the best of games, I couldn’t get into it, but whether I play wide or up top I don’t think that should affect my performance.”
