Bees squad proud of scheme – Saunders

Sam Saunders says Brentford’s players are proud of the club’s Pay What You Can initiative.

The scheme – a huge success last season – returns for Saturday’s home fixture with Shrewsbury, allowing non season-ticket holders to purchase tickets for any amount they wish above a minimum of £1.

For every ticket sold for £5 and over, 50% of the excess will be donated to the charity Sport Relief.

Bees playmaker Saunders told West London Sport: “It’s great that the club are doing this again – the whole squad is proud and delighted.

“It’s a brilliant way of getting new fans to come and see us play and of course it raises money for a fantastic charity too.

“It will probably be the biggest crowd of the season, so hopefully we can use that and give them a great performance on the pitch so that they want to keep coming back.

“It could help bring in a whole new generation of fans to the club.”

Brentford raised more than £3,300 for Sport Relief when they ran the scheme last year.

They sold 10,000 tickets for the league game with Stevenage in December, but the fixture was called off because of bad weather.

Despite the postponement, more than 7,000 people returned for the rearranged match on Tuesday 12 February, which the Bees won 2-0.

Tickets for Saturday’s game are on sale until 4pm on Friday 25 October from the club’s ticket office, or via telephone on 0845 3456 442, and are limited to six per person. They are also available online via the club’s website.
