Bees sign keeper Button from Charlton

Brentford have signed goalkeeper David Button from Charlton for an undisclosed fee.

The 24-year-old arrives at Griffin Park to replace Simon Moore, whose departure to Cardiff City was confirmed on Monday.

Button, a former Tottenham trainee with numerous loan spells under his belt, has signed a two-year deal with the Bees.

Brentford boss Uwe Rösler told the club’s website: “We always felt we had to have a plan B in place in case we had offers for Simon.

“Over the summer we had goalkeepers in on trial and we made lists and enquiries in case Simon left.

“We decided David was the perfect choice for us. He is at the right age and is very hungry to make the number one spot his own.

“As soon as Simon left, David was our first choice. He is the only player we enquired about and the only player we made a bid for.”

Button, who will compete for the number one jersey with Richard Lee and Jack Bonham, joined Charlton from Spurs last summer, starting five games in the Championship.

He was previously on loan at Grays, Rochdale, Bournemouth, Luton, Dagenham, Shrewsbury, Crewe, Plymouth, Leyton Orient, Barnsley and Doncaster.
