Bees settle for point after stalemate

Brentford 0 Sheffield Wednesday 0

Brentford lacked the quality up front needed to get the better of a resolute Sheffield Wednesday.

And had it not been for a host of good saves from David Button, and the visitors hitting the post, the Bees could have suffered their second home league defeat of the season.

Striker Andre Gray had a goal disallowed for offside in the first half when he slotted home Jota’s incisive pass, while Jonathan Douglas had a header cleared off the line in the second.

But the hosts generally struggled to create clear shots on goal and Wednesday forward Stevie May hit the upright just before the interval.

With the Bees celebrating their 125th anniversary, Gray seemed to have rewarded a bright start but his early tap-in was ruled out.

But Brentford were forced to cling on for dear life before the break as the visitors rained shots at Button.

Defender Harlee Dean, who replaced the suspended James Tarkowski in the home side’s only change, also threatened with a header while substitute Nick Proschwitz missed from close range late on.

Brentford (4-3-3): Button; McCormack, Dean, Craig, Bidwell; Judge (Diagouraga 75), Douglas, Pritchard; Odubajo, Gray (Toral 84), Jota (Proschwitz 75)
Subs not used: Bonham, Betinho, Yennaris, Moore
