Brentford have had an offer for Ben Stevenson rejected by Coventry but remain hopeful of agreeing a deal for the youngster.
The Sky Blues value Stevenson, 19, at more than £2m.
West London Sport revealed last month that the Bees were keen to sign a defensive midfielder when the January transfer window opened.
Stevenson, a product of Coventry’s academy, has made 22 appearances since his senior debut last August.
Brentford also want to sign a winger this month and are in talks with Norwich to bring Sergi Canos back to Griffin Park.
