Brentford have moved another step towards a new stadium at Lionel Road after their plans were approved by the Greater London Authority.
Mayor Boris Johnson decided not to ‘call in’ the club’s planning application, which was approved by Hounslow Council in December despite significant local objections.
It means Brentford can press ahead with their development of a 20,000-capacity home new Kew Bridge.
The issue has now been referred to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government Eric Pickles for final approval.
Bees chairman Cliff Crown said: “Our vision of an exciting new hub at this brownfield site has taken another major step forward.
“We are aware the Secretary of State can still call this matter in and review it. We sincerely hope he will feel confident in the extensive work done by Hounslow and the GLA and decide he has no need to do this.”
Johnson received a petition signed by around 9,000 people supporting Brentford’s plans.

This is great news and is what the club deserves. I am glad this has been looked at objectively. This must have been hard with all of the misleading, incorrect and quite honestly lies from the no brigade.
