Brentford cruised to a comfortable win over relegation-threatened Bristol City thanks to a two-goal burst midway through the first half.
Sergi Canos, who almost breached the City rearguard in the game’s first serious attack, drilled home the opener on 18 minutes.
A Konstantin Kerschbaumer free-kick crashed into City’s defensive wall and Ryan Woods lifted the rebound out to the unmarked Spaniard, 12 yards out, who had all the time he needed to control the ball and crash it past keeper Frank Fielding.
And barely eight minutes had elapsed before Lasse Vibe doubled the lead with his 12th goal of the campaign – the striker reacting quickest during a game of head tennis, following a corner, to get in front of the City keeper and nod over him.
Further goals looked inevitable for the dominant Bees, but surprisingly never came.
Romaine Sawyers cracked a drive over the bar and Vibe forced Fielding to get down sharply to his left hand post to keep out another effort just before half-time.
Chelsea loanee Tammy Abraham almost got the visitors back in the game on the hour when he connected well with a Joe Bryan cross, only to see his header crash back off a post.
Matt Taylor also missed a late chance for City, but the visitors offered little threat.
