Harry Forrester insists his battle with Sam Saunders for a first-team place will not affect their friendship.
The flatmates currently appear to be in direct competition for a spot in Brentford manager Uwe Rosler’s side, with Forrester featuring more than Saunders so far this season.
But Forrester told West London Sport: “It won’t come between us.
“No matter who you play with or who you’re friends with any competition is good competition – it’s the only way to get the best performances and the best results.
“Sam and I are both honest lads, if someone’s done well we’ll be the first to tell each other – we are close like that.
“At Bournemouth he came on and congratulated me on my goal and I would do the same for him.”
He added: “We don’t pick the team. We train the best we can every day and whoever gets the nod gets the nod and it’s up to whoever gets in the team to stay in the team.”
