Yoann Barbet missed a penalty as Brentford’s involvement in the Carabao Cup came to an abrupt end.
Mario Vrancic scored with a penalty and a free-kick and Josh Murphy scored Norwich’s other goal at Griffin Park, where Josh Clarke netted a late consolation for the home side.
Youngsters Chris Mepham and Theo Archibald made their first-team debuts for the Bees, who were behind after 10 minutes.
After Mepham fouled Marley Watkins in the area, Vrancic tucked away the resulting spot-kick.
Barbet, on the other hand, blasted over from the penalty spot on the half-hour mark following Ivo Pinto’s foul on Kamohelo Mokotjo.
Vrancic doubled the Canaries’ lead early in the second half and Justin Shaibu almost pulled a goal back for Brentford when his 25-yard shot hit the post.
Murphy made it three when he beat the offside trap and dinked the ball over keeper Luke Daniels.
Clarke scored in injury time, firing home after the ball broke to him in the box.
