Brentford manager Mark Warburton has called for unity ahead of an expected statement on his future from club owner Matthew Benham.
Warburton has held talks with Benham since it was reported that the 52-year-old is set to lose his job at the end of the season.
“It’s really important that the club is unified and Matthew will release a statement in the next 24 to 48 hours that I’m sure will give clarity, and we can move on from there,” Warburton said.
“It’s important that it comes from him. It’s Matthew’s club. He’s the owner and it’s his money that has allowed this team and the new stadium to be where it is.
“I’ve spoken with Matthew – I speak regularly with him – and he cares passionately about the club.
“I hope the supporters can never accuse anyone at Brentford of not acting in the club’s best interests.”
Brentford were beaten at home by Watford just hours after conflicting reports on Warburton’s future and an ambiguous statement from the club caused confusion and concern among supporters.
But the Bees boss insists the players have not lost any of their focus and that he must be “man enough” to cope with the ongoing speculation.
“From me personally I want the fans to know my only focus is the team,” he said ahead of Saturday’s visit to Charlton.
“My job is about that group of players and I’ve got to be experienced and man enough to deal with separate issues at the same time.
“I’ve been here for four years now and all the hard work from everyone in that time has got us here.
“Hopefully the fans saw on Tuesday how together the football department is and that they’re still focused.”
