Rosler felt Bees star needed a break
Brentford manager Uwe Rosler has insisted that Harlee Dean was rested rather than dropped for Tuesday’s game against Shrewsbury.
Leon Legge replaced the former Southampton centre-back for the 0-0 draw at Griffin Park, where both teams had chances to break the deadlock.
And Rosler was quick to point out that Dean was not left out because of his performances.
“Let me be absolutely clear that Harlee Dean didn’t get dropped,” he said.
“He has played a lot of games and I felt last weekend he looked a little bit tired towards the end. I felt the game on Tuesday came a bit early for him.
“I gave Harlee a little bit of time to refresh mentally. It’s easy to forget he is only 21 and this is his first full season.”
Legge slotted in alongside Tony Craig, who was fortunate not to concede a penalty when he blocked a second-half shot with his arm.
Referee Tim Robinson pointed to the spot before consulting his assistant and then awarding a corner.
Rosler admitted: “It was a clear penalty. After seeing DVD, the arms were raised. We got away with that.”
