Yeovil 2 Brentford 1
Andy Williams netted an 87th-minute winner for Yeovil as they came from behind to beat Brentford at Huish Park.
Sam Saunders celebrated his new contract by scoring his ninth goal of the season for the Bees.
But Williams scored twice in the second half to put a dent in the London club’s play-off hopes.
Saunders, who agreed a one-year deal in midweek, showed his quality by creating an early chance for Clayton Donaldson, who fired wide.
Brentford’s 25th-minute opener was a typical Saunders strike – a perfectly placed free-kick into the corner of the net.
But, after Paul Huntington almost equalised when he headed over, Yeovil hit back with a long-range belter of their own.
Williams controlled a long ball and squirmed away from Leon Legge and Adam Thompson before smashing beyond keeper Simon Moore, who played instead of Richard Lee.
It was Williams’ sixth goal in as many games – and his seventh sent Uwe Rosler’s side home with nothing.
The in-form striker pounced after hesitation by Legge and fellow defender Harlee Dean.
It came after Brentford had a goal disallowed and strong appeals for a penalty waved away.
Gary Alexander hit the net but Donaldson, who did not appear to be interfering with play, was in an offside position and the effort was ruled out.
And Rosler’s men felt aggrieved again when Jonathan Douglas seemed to be impeded by Huntington as he attempted to meet Donaldson’s knock-down.
