Gould beats Higgins to reach last eight in Shanghai
Martin Gould gained revenge over four-time world champion John Higgins to move into the quarter-finals of the Shanghai Masters.
The Pinner potter had lost to Higgins in the Australian Open final in July, his first ranking final since 2011, in a final-frame decider.
But Gould responded by beating the world number 12 5-3, the first time he has defeated the Scotsman in a ranking event.
The 34-year-old, who saw off Barry Hawkins in round one, hit breaks of 44, 71, 50 and 92 to take a 3-1 lead.
Higgins fought back to level at 3-3 but Gould went back in front thanks to a 77 in frame seven before wrapping it up in the next.
Gould next faces reigning world champion, and close friend, Stuart Bingham in the last eight on Friday.
