Chelsea youngsters fight back to beat Liverpool
Kasey Palmer’s second-half hat-trick secured a 4-2 comeback victory for Chelsea’s Under-21 side in a thrilling Premier League International Cup game against Liverpool Under-21s.
John Swift put Chelsea ahead with a curling strike from 25 yards but Alex Kiwomya missed a simple headed chance from Kevin Wright’s cross to make it 2-0.
And the miss looked like proving costly as Jerome Sinclair’s tidy low finish and tap-in made it 2-1 to Liverpool before half-time.
However, Palmer’s explosive run and quality shot in to the far corner drew Chelsea level within six minutes of the restart and he headed his second from Swift’s inviting cross after some intricate but patient build-up play.
His third – to seal an impressive win – came via a deflected free-kick but there were no further goals despite both sides creating decent chances.
