Saunders and Holldack star in Brentford U-21 win
Sam Saunders featured for Brentford’s development side as they began their season with an impressive 3-1 win at Birmingham, where summer signing Jan Holldack scored twice.
Saunders, who is working his way back to fitness after injury, set up a goal for Daniel O’Shaughnessy and hit the woodwork during his 60-minute outing at St Andrews.
German defender Holldack scored from close range and then with a cracking shot from near the edge of the penalty area after being set up by Aaron Greene on both occasions.
It was 3-0 by half-time courtesy of O’Shaughnessy’s header from Saunders’ corner.
Birmingham pulled a goal back when Viv Soloman-Otabor scored from the penalty spot after being tripped by Montell Moore.
But the Bees remained dominant and Saunders almost scored shortly before he was substituted when his 25-yard free-kick struck the bar.
