Gamble paid off – Fulham boss

Fulham manager Martin Jol felt his team selection against Chelsea was vindicated by the result at Stamford Bridge.

Jol, who said strikers Bobby Zamora and Andrew Johnson did not feature because they were injured, used Orlando Sa as a lone striker and packed the midfield.

And the Whites were rewarded for their hard work with an equaliser from Clint Dempsey, whose goal cancelled out Juan Mata’s opener and earned a 1-1 draw.

“Sometimes you have to take a gamble, and that is what we did,” said Jol.

“Our two main strikers dropped out so we had to come up with something else. I think it paid off.

“We played with two on the flanks and two offensive midfield players, and we caused them a problem in the first half.

“They scored and it was a big blow but we came back . There was an urgency, we scored, and that gave us a big boost. I think we deserved a point.”
