Dijkhuizen eyes potential loan deals
Head coach Marinus Dijkhuizen has indicated that he is keen for Brentford to continue their successful recruitment of youngsters from Premier League clubs.
Brentford used the loan market to good effect prior to Dijkhuizen’s recent arrival, bringing in the likes of George Saville from Chelsea, Alex Pritchard from Tottenham and Arsenal’s Jon Toral in the last couple of seasons.
“It’s very interesting because clubs like Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea have very big squads,” Dijkhuizen said.
“It’s interesting for Brentford and maybe other clubs that may be able to get a good player on loan.
“To have a lot of players on loan I don’t think is good, but just a few is good to have.”
While relationships between English top-flight and lower-division sides have been forged, more formal agreements between clubs in other parts of Europe are common – Dijkhuizen’s former club Excelsior had a tie-up with Dutch giants Feyenoord.
“It wasn’t popular with fans,” the Dutchman recalled.
“In the beginning we got a lot of good quality players. After a couple of years we got less quality of player so we made our own decisions and recruited more of our own players.
“Getting one, two or three [on loan] is good but you have to be your own club and make your own decisions.”
