Stirling and Franklin destroy Kent in T20

Paul Stirling smashed a quickfire 90 and James Franklin took 5-21 as Middlesex earned a crushing victory in their first T20 home game of the season.

Ireland batsman Stirling, opening the innings, hit six fours and launched seven sixes in his 50-ball knock.

Captain Eoin Morgan then scored 54 from just 27 deliveries as Middlesex passed 200 in a T20 game for the first time in three years.

Kent were never at the races from the moment Daniel Bell-Drummond and former Middlesex man Joe Denly fell in the space of three balls early in the reply.

Franklin was twice on a hat-trick as he ran through the Spitfires’ middle order to record his best-ever T20 haul.

Steven Finn conceded just eight runs from his three overs and debutant Nathan Sowter wrapped things up with two wickets in his only four balls.

So one-sided was the contest, the margin of victory was the fifth largest since the English T20 competition began in 2003.
