QPR to ‘make every attempt’ to keep Austin
Chris Ramsey says QPR will do everything they can to hold on to Charlie Austin this summer.
Having earned a first call-up to the England squad, the 25-year-old striker scored his 18th goal of the season in Rangers’ 5-1 thumping at Leicester.
Top-flight clubs are seemingly interested in signing Austin, but head coach Ramsey wants him to stay.
“I will imagine that anybody who scores that many goals and is going to the England camp would not be looking elsewhere than playing in the Premier League, but we’re going to make every attempt to keep him,” Ramsey said.
“He’s somebody that we need, and it’s very difficult to buy strikers of that pedigree to come into the team and start scoring.”
Austin’s stellar form up front has been one of the few bright sparks in QPR’s woeful season.
There are expected to be several comings and goings in the transfer window as the club attempts to rebuild.
“Most of it is out of my hands,” Ramsey added. “I’ll have a discussion with Les [Ferdinand] and the owners so everyone knows who’s going to be there and who’s not. That will probably be known quite quickly.
“We know that our budget is going to be limited, and that’s why patience is going to be important.”
