Gray confident Bees can reach Wembley

Brentford striker Andre Gray insists his side are confident ahead of their play-off clash with Middlesbrough despite being beaten by them twice this season.

The Bees were thrashed 4-0 at the Riverside Stadium in September and lost 1-0 at home to them in February.

But Gray says they are determined to prevail this time – and ensure manager Mark Warburton’s last game in charge is at Wembley.

“They will think they can beat us but the fact they’ve beaten us twice means nothing – this is the play-offs and anything can happen over two legs,” Gray told West London Sport ahead of Friday’s semi-final first leg.

“We’re buzzing to get over the line and get in there [the play-offs] for ourselves and for Mark. We wanted to do it for him because he deserves it and we’re delighted for him.

“They’ve got a strong squad with some great attacking players but we’re confident and believe we can beat them. We want to do this for Mark too.”

Gray has been a revelation since arriving at Griffin Park last summer from Luton Town, scoring 17 goals this season.

But the 23-year-old believes he should have scored more.

“I have been frustrated that I’ve been getting chances and not putting them away,” he said.

“I’m the most critical person of myself. I think I could have scored 20 or 25 goals this season, but I’ve got to look at the positives.

“I’m coming out of games thinking I should score more when I’ve got 17 in my first season in the Championship.”
