Ten-man Bury hit back to deny Bees
Bury 1 Brentford 1
Lenell John-Lewis scored an 85th-minute equaliser to deny Brentford a sixth away league victory of the season.
The Bees went ahead on the hour mark, when Gary Alexander netted from the penalty spot after Toumani Diagouraga had been brought down by Peter Sweeney.
Once Joe Skarz, yellow-carded following an earlier challenge on Marcus Bean, was sent off for a second bookable offence after fouling Jonathan Douglas, Uwe Rosler’s side looked set for another win on the road.
But Bury were level eight minutes later. Brentford failed to clear a free-kick and John-Lewis let fly with a volley which keeper Richard Lee got a hand to but could not keep out of the net.
The Shakers’ goal came shortly after their keeper Cameron Belford had produced two excellent saves.
Belford stopped a fierce effort from Bean and then did well to keep out Harlee Dean’s header.
Those saves proved to be crucial, but Brentford were also left to regret missing chances to score a second goal soon after Alexander had given them the lead.
Alexander shot wide before Douglas also failed to hit the target with a volley, and if either of those had gone in there would surely have been no way back for Bury.
