Jumah set for return at light-heavyweight

Deion Jumah will return to action this weekend – at light-heavyweight – after more than a year out of the ring.

The 25-year-old, twice an ABA champion, has decided to move down from cruiserweight and will face Josef Krivka in Oldenburg, Germany.

Saturday’s fight will end a frustrating spell of injury and illness for Jumah, who turned professional in 2013 and won his first three bouts at a canter.

“It was the right decision for me to move down,” said Jumah.

“I have no problems making the weight. I was strong at cruiserweight, but at light-heavy I will be even stronger.

“I’m really looking forward to getting back in the ring. It’s been a long road, but now I’m ready to get back on track and back where I belong.’’

Jumah is a product of the Dale Youth Boxing Club in Notting Hill, where the likes of super-middleweight rivals George Groves and James DeGale were schooled.

And he has been working with Groves’ former coach and manager Adam Booth.

Jumah said: “Adam has been great. I’ve improved so much just being around him.

“I’m here for the long haul. I want to be the best. But at the moment, I’m only focusing on the present, and that’s Krivka on 6 December .

“I want to get in there, look good, and show everyone that I’m back and I mean business.”

Promoter Nisse Sauerland added: ”It’s been a tough 12 months for Deion, with injury and illness keeping him out of the ring.

“He has showed great strength of character to stay fit and focused on his boxing. He is in good hands with Adam.

“We’re all looking forward to seeing him back in action on 6 December in Oldenburg.”
