Boss Symons hails Fulham’s resilience

Manager Kit Symons hailed Fulham’s resilience after they twice fought back to draw 3-3 at Wigan as both sides finished with 10 men.

Bryan Ruiz scored twice and his late penalty rescued a point for the Whites, who had Ross McCormack sent off.

“They have got real character,” Symons said.

“The three things I talk about all the time are trust, honesty and belief – they showed that in abundance today and I am delighted with them to a man.”

The result continued Fulham’s upturn in fortunes under Symons, who took caretaker charge following the sacking of Felix Magath and was this week installed as manager on a permanent basis.

“As a group they were very low when I first took over, they have shown resilience and character,” Symons added.

But he was less impressed with Konstantinos Stafylidis giving away a penalty for a clumsy tackle on Callum McManaman and McCormack being sent off for a second booking following a heated exchange with James McClean.

“Something that will cost us is ill-discipline, and I’ve spoken to them about it – giving away silly penalties as we did in the first half and picking up a silly yellow for the sending off,” Symons said.

“If we could tighten up on our some of our discipline in things we do on the pitch we will be alright.”
