Jota scores as Bees see off Leeds

Brentford 2 Leeds United 0

Jota scored his first goal for the club as Brentford bounced back from two recent heavy defeats.

The summer signing from Celta Vigo tricked his way past two players inside the box before firing into the roof of the net on the cusp of half-time.

James Tarkowski had earlier missed a penalty for Brentford, blazing the ball high over the bar after Andre Gray was brought down in the box by Jason Pearce.

But Alan McCormack added a second when his powerful low shot went in via the legs of Leeds keeper Marco Silvestri with 15 minutes remaining.

After losing to Norwich and Middlesbrough and failing to score in either game, Bees boss Mark Warburton will have been pleased to beat a side with three wins from their last four league games.

And the win saw new Leeds boss Darko Milanic, employed this week, get off to a losing start after a fine run under caretaker boss Neil Redfearn.

Warburton’s side had the best chances, with Silvestri forced into a double save when he pushed an Alan Judge free-kick to the feet of Moses Odubajo early on, and saved again from the winger.

Gray and Jonathan Douglas also went close but Brentford should have gone ahead through Tarkowski, whose penalty was poor.

Instead, Jota fired the Bees ahead in style and the Leeds keeper was needed further to deny Gray and Odubajo in the second half before McCormack struck on 75 minutes.
