Chelsea hopeful Costa will be passed fit

Chelsea are hopeful Diego Costa will be fit to play in Saturday’s game at home to Swansea.

The striker has been nursing a hamstring problem and withdrew from the Spain squad during the recent international break.

But he trained on Friday and boss Jose Mourinho, whose side face Schalke in the Champions League next week, appears confident that Costa will be given the all-clear.

Mourinho said: “Diego came back injured, but that was last Saturday.

“He had one week to work hard with the medical department and he has a chance to play tomorrow.

“We have a training session to confirm his condition and to make the final decision.”

Costa, 25, made an immediate impact at Stamford Bridge following his big-money summer move from Atletico Madrid.

He was outstanding in their opening three Premier League matches and has already scored four times for the Blues.

And Mourinho insists he is not surprised that Costa has adapted to English football so quickly.

“His profile as a player, as a person, and also part of a team, because we knew that the team was going in a certain direction and was waiting for a person like him to be there,” Mourinho said.

“His start was good; three matches, three victories and four goals.”

Meanwhile, Loic Remy is in contention to make his Chelsea debut this weekend and could start in place of Costa.

The France striker is set to be included in Mourinho’s squad following his recent move from neighbours QPR.
