Win moves Bees closer to promotion

Alan Judge scored twice against his former club as Brentford took a big step towards promotion. 

Adam Forshaw opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Clayton Donaldson had been fouled by Haydn Hollis, who was sent off.

A dominant Bees side swarmed all over 10-man County and doubled their lead just before the break when Judge converted Alan McCormack’s pass.

Judge, who spent three seasons at Notts, added the third after Toumani Diagouraga had twice been denied by visiting keeper Bartosz Bialkowski.

Jimmy Spencer scored a consolation when he flicked the ball over David Button.

Victory, and three goals, will have come as a relief to Bees boss Mark Warbuton, after a 3-0 defeat and two goalless draws in the last three matches.

Brentford were on top throughout with the recalled Stuart Dallas prominent early on and Judge keeping Bialkowski busy.

Donaldson headed wide from a Judge corner when unmarked but the big striker helped the Bees end their 340-minute goal drought when he was hauled down by Hollis as he chased a long ball.

The County defender was dismissed and Forshaw made no mistake from 12 yards.

Three minutes before half-time, Brentford got the comfortable cushion their play had merited when McCormack slipped the ball through to Judge and he slotted home at the near post.

The on-loan Blackburn winger, who scored for County in this fixture last March, grabbed his second goal from close range, profiting from Diagouraga’s hard work.

Jonathan Douglas’s header was saved well by Bialkowski and McCormack fired over as Brentford continued to hunt further goals.

It was County though who had the last word, Spencer lobbing over Button, but Brentford are six points clear of nearest challengers Rotherham, with six games remaining.
