Magath: Fulham have been complacent

Fulham manager Felix Magath says his players are only now waking up to how serious the threat of relegation is.

The 60-year-old German, who became the Whites’ third boss this season when appointed last month, has suggested that both the squad and previous managers may have been complacent.

Fulham are bottom of the table, four points adrift of safety with nine games left, and they have not won a Premier League game since New Year’s Day.

And Magath said: “I hope they are now waking up to how severe it is because the whole season they haven’t realised that they are on the bottom of the table.

“In the last days or weeks the players said to me ‘We have 12 games left, we have an easy schedule so we are able to manage this’.

“They didn’t say they were relaxed about it but they said ‘These games are not so difficult’.

“I think they were tempted into a situation that they were too secure. Maybe they were complacent.”
