Eagles beaten but new players impress
Ruislip Eagles suffered a narrow away defeat in the group phase of the EHA Cup, losing 26-25 against Olympic Catuvellauni.
Several of the Eagles’ regular first-teamers were unavailable for Sunday’s match in Bedford, so there were debuts for Chris Powell, Sam Crocker and promising youngser Oliver Bray.
The Oly Cats are a new team formed by ex-Olympic Great Britain handball captain Bobby White and boast GB players Mark Hawkins, Dan McMillan and Matt Lee.
And they got off to the better start, with the Eagles conceding a series of turnovers in attack throughout the first half.
The home side had a five-goal advantage in the second half but, with Jozesf Csontos taking shooting responsibilities, Eagles hit back.
In the end they missed out, but can take heart from the performances of their new players, as well as Ali Barton and keeper Tibor Szerencse, who made countless saves.
Team: Tibor Szerencse, Marc Fayemi (7 goals), Jozsef Csontos (6), Oli Barton (4), Tobias Stockfleth (3), Sam Crocker (3), Fabien Colette (2), Oliver Bray, Stephen Raducki, Chris Powell.
