Oscar and Willian inspire Blues to victory

Southampton 0 Chelsea 3

Brazilian duo Oscar and Willian grabbed a goal each as they came off the bench to inspire Chelsea to victory.

The second-half substitutes entered the action eight minutes into the second half and Oscar, who replaced Juan Mata, soon created the opener when his deflected cross rebounded off the base of the post, allowing Fernando Torres to head home.

Willian found the bottom corner with a superb second soon after.

And Oscar raced on to Eden Hazard’s exquisite pass to seal Chelsea’s third win in four games with a deflected strike.

A tight first half played in windswept conditions at St Mary’s saw both sides create chances.

Andre Schurrle and Torres sent early efforts wide and Torres blazed a shot over the bar after a superb run saw him beat two men when cutting in from the right flank.

Southampton threatened, particularly in the middle stages of the first period, with the ever-impressive Adam Lallana the main creative threat.

The winger twice had shots blocked and his England team-mate Jay Rodriguez was also denied a likely goal by some superb tracking back by Ashley Cole.

Ramires shot over after a mazy run but it was the introduction of Oscar and Willian for the ineffective Mata and Schurrle that made the difference for the Blues.

Torres did well to head home the first from close range and after Willian’s fabulous strike from the edge of the area, Oscar sealed the win.
