Latest: Chelsea 2 Liverpool 1

Chelsea remain ahead but Samuel Eto’o squandered a great opportunity to extend their lead as both teams kept up a high tempo early in the second half.

Eto’o looked a favourite to score when he was sent clear by Eden Hazard but Reds keeper Simon Mignolet produced a fine save with his arm.

Liverpool have posed a greater threat since half-time, as Mamadou Sakho headed against the woodwork and Luis Suarez fired straight at Petr Cech.

Earlier, Hazard and Eto’o had grabbed the goals as Chelsea responded brilliantly to going behind early on.

Liverpool took the lead in the third minute as a Phillipe Coutinho free-kick aimed in at Luis Suarez bounced off Branislav Ivanovic’s arm and into the path of Martin Skrtel to turn home.

Chelsea went on to dominate the rest of the first half, with Hazard and Frank Lampard forcing Mignolet into saves.

They were deservedly level when Hazard curled a composed finish into the top corner after being set up by Oscar and then went in front thanks to Eto’o’s poached finish which squirmed through Mignolet’s grasp.

Between the two goals, Cahill produced an outstanding challenge as Joe Allen prepared to pull the trigger.

Chelsea have substituted both Branislav Ivanovic, who picked up a knock during the first half, and Frank Lampard, replaced by John Obi Mikel at half-time.

Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Cech; Ivanovic (Cole 30), Cahill, Terry, Azpilicueta; Luiz, Lampard (Mikel 46); Willian, Oscar, Hazard; Eto’o.
Subs: Schwarzer, Essien, Mikel, Schurrle, Mata, Torres.
