Bond plays down QPR’s pursuit of Crouch
QPR assistant manager Kevin Bond says the club have not made any new enquiries about Peter Crouch.
Aware of his popularity among fans, bringing back the striker, who left Loftus Road in 2001, has been the ambition of successive Rangers regimes and a deal was almost agreed with Stoke earlier this year.
Boss Harry Redknapp plans to make another move to sign him in January, but Bond played down reports that Crouch is set to reject a switch to Crystal Palace and instead return to west London.
“I don’t know about that. It’s not a discussion the manager has had at this stage,” he said.
However, Bond believes Rangers could do with bringing in another striker when the transfer window reopens next month.
“Probably. Andy Johnson wasn’t really fit today and Bobby Zamora has been out for a long while,” he said after the 1-0 defeat at home to Leicester.
“We could do with another. Charlie Austin has done well in terms of goalscoring and leading the line, but we could do with the option [of playing with a second striker].
“AJ played up front recently and we had a positive result. Then he played again and we drew, so it’s not all about playing with two up front. But it’s nice to be able to have that if we want it.”
