Boss suggests Luiz will stay at Chelsea
Jose Mourinho has indicated that David Luiz will not be leaving Chelsea in January.
There has been speculation over the Brazilian’s future at Stamford Bridge since Mourinho’s return in the summer, with Barcelona reportedly interested in signing him.
But the Blues boss says there has been no approach made for Luiz, who recently returned to the team following a knee injury.
Luiz is set to continue alongside John Terry at centre-back for Saturday’s derby at home to Crystal Palace as Gary Cahill is nursing a slight thigh problem.
Mournho said: “He has a long-term contract and there has been no contact from another club.
“Everything is clear, he is our player and we are so happy he is back – and back at a moment when Cahill is not playing and we need him and John to play a second match in a row.”
Mourinho plans to restore Cesar Azpilicueta to left-back against the Eagles, with Ashley Cole returning to the substitutes’ bench.
Cole was recalled for this week’s Champions League win against Steaua Bucharest – his first appearance since a poor display in the defeat at Newcastle on 2 November.
