Cole will get new contract, says Mourinho
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho expects Ashley Cole to be offered a new contract by the club.
The England international recently lost his place in the Blues side and has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge at the end of the season, when his current deal is due to expire.
But Mourinho believes Cole, who turns 33 later this month, should be given the chance to stay – even if he is no longer a first-team regular.
“Naturally he will get his contract because he is a hell of a player for us,” said Mourinho.
“Whether he gets his place back 100%, I don’t know, but there will always be opportunities for him to play.
“I know him well and he is a fantastic guy. It is easy to feel not happy or comfortable but the way he plays and trains – he’s a super professional.
“When he is on the bench behind me I can feel he is there to win, even if he is not on the pitch.”
Cole has not featured since Chelsea’s defeat against Newcastle last month, with Cesar Azpilicueta taking his place at left-back.
Mourinho was unhappy with Cole’s display at St James’ Park but plans to recall him for Wednesday’s Champions League match at home to Steaua Bucharest.

I don’t understand why these old guys are still in the team and they still want new contract. I wish Lampard, Terry, Cole and Essien are not in this team. these guys can never give us what they gave us in the past. this time that mourinho is here I know they’ll continue to be here for a long time that’s why I wasn’t happy at all when mourinho was reappointed.
