Swans boss has sympathy for Jol

Swansea manager Michael Laudrup admitted he felt sorry for under-fire Fulham boss Martin Jol after the Welsh club’s win at Craven Cottage.

Laudrup’s side condemned Fulham to a fourth straight league defeat, with substitute Jonjo Shelvey ‘s late strike giving them a 2-1 victory.

A loud chorus of boos and chants of “Jol out” could be heard from the home fans at the final whistle once again.

And Laudrup said: “I feel sorry for him. We all know these are difficult moments and a lot of times you are pointing at the manager. It is always easier to change one person than 20.

“But we as managers have chosen it. We know it is like that when we go into this job and we have to accept it. If we don’t we have to find another job.”

The result gave an immediate taste of defeat to Rene Meulensteen, who was installed as Fulham’s head coach alongside Jol last week.

But Laudrup believes the former assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United will be an asset to the Whites.

“It must be for a reason that he worked for so long as assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson, so I am quite sure [he will be good for Fulham],” the Dane added.

“They have lost some games recently but they had a chance to beat us today and go above us and away from the relegation zone.

“This made it a very, very, very important games for both of us, and us being away added a little more difficulty.

“So apart from the win, the performance over the last 10 minutes of the first half and the whole second was excellent. I really have to say I am very, very pleased.”
