Brentford demolish Staines in FA Cup
Brentford 5 Staines Town 0
Brentford eased through to the second round of the FA Cup with a comfortable win at Griffin Park.
The Bees found themselves with a three-goal lead at half-time thanks to a well taken Alan McCormack penalty and further strikes from Jake Reeves and Kadeem Harris.
The second half continued in the same vein and Marcello Trotta guided McCormack’s cross over goalkeeper Kyle Merson in the Staines goal before Clayton Donaldson netted a late fifth.
The Conference South minnows, managed by former Bees star Marcus Gayle, offered little against a Brentford side who dominated from start to finish.
Uwe Rosler’s men went ahead when Staines captain Lewis Ferrell was adjudged to have handled from Harris’ corner and McCormack stepped up to dispatch the resulting penalty midway through the first half.
They then doubled their lead when Reeves played a neat one-two with Trotta in the visitors’ penalty box before lifting the ball over Merson.
On-loan Cardiff City winger Harris was a constant threat and got the reward his performance deserved when his 25-yard rapturous drive found the net.
Trotta’s tidy finish underlined Brentford’s superiority and Donaldson managed to poke home late on after Staines failed to clear a corner.
