‘Hurt’ Trotta keen to win over Bees fans

Marcello Trotta says he has been “hurt” by the reaction of some Brentford fans to his return to the club and is determined to win them over.

The Fulham striker is back for a second loan spell at Griffin Park – a move opposed by many supporters after the last-gasp penalty miss that cost the Bees promotion last season.

Trotta infamously hit the bar from the spot against Doncaster on the final day after refusing to allow club captain Kevin O’Connor to take the kick.

“It has hurt me, the way some fans have been,” Trotta told West London Sport.

“That is normal, it’s the way football goes sometimes, but if I keep playing well and scoring for the team I’ll try to change their minds.

Brentford lost out in dramatic fashion.
Trotta’s miss left Brentford desolate

“I try to do my best hopefully to put everyone on the same side and I think we are getting there.”

The 21-year-old scored nine goals for Brentford during his first loan spell at the club but initially struggled this time around.

He hopes he has turned the corner after scoring in successive home games.

“The club and the team have been really strong helping me,” said Trotta.

“It was a bit hard in the beginning because I wasn’t really fit. The tempo as always is very high here and it was tough for me.

“But I am getting fitter now and I’m enjoying my game. I have to train hard in order to get a spot in this team because we have a very good squad.

“The way the team is set up now is very good, because as a striker we are more attack-minded and we have more of a threat.

“These last three games have been good for us but we have to keep that momentum going.”
