Rosler’s ‘marriage’ mended by Bees win

Manager Uwe Rosler believes his team’s promotion bid and his ‘marriage’ to Brentford fans are back on track following the 1-0 victory against Shrewsbury.

Marcello Trotta’s first-half goal was enough to give the Bees their third consecutive win as they continue to improve after a mixed start to the season by last term’s beaten play-off finalists.

Rosler was upset by barracking from supporters when his side were losing during last Saturday’s 3-1 win against Colchester – and appeared to criticise them following the midweek victory at Bristol City.

But a crowd of almost 10,000 – enjoying the return of the club’s successful Pay What You Can initiative – went home happy after a deserved triumph at Griffin Park.

And Rosler declared: “It’s like a marriage – sometimes clouds come but it doesn’t mean you get divorced. You’re always working through things.

“We all want to achieve our goal. Everybody connected to the club is passionate and this makes Brentford Football Club special.

“As manager I want it as much as the supporters. It has to be positive that we are passionate and want the best for Brentford.”

Rosler’s men had to withstand spells of pressure as Shrewsbury pushed hard for an equaliser in the second half.

But they stood firm and the three points took Brentford up to fifth in League One.

“In the first half we were very good offensively,” said Rosler.

“Credit to Shrewsbury, who came here to win whereas some teams park the bus. The game was open and some of our play was great.”

He added: “We’re coming closer and closer to our performances from last year.

“We have played with the same formation and same core of players and been getting results and building confidence.

“The goal was [like] us at our best last year. We had a lot of runners into the box and people attacking the ball.

“The tricky thing now is keeping the squad fit. We have to keep all the players fit because they will be needed.

“There will be injuries and suspensions, especially around Christmas. The trick is to be consistent and give the players confidence.”
