Bolton v QPR player ratings

QPR continued their encouraging start to the season, with Andy Johnson netting their winner at the Reebok Stadium. Here’s how we rated Rangers’ players in their 1-0 victory against Bolton.

Robert Green: 9
His fingertips have been a crucial part of QPR’s flying start to the new campaign. After denying Ipswich’s Daryl Murphy with a top-class stop he repeated the trick a week later, tipping Mohammed Kamara’s fine strike onto the upright. It was the highlight of a near faultless display.

Danny Simpson: 7
Consistency is the full-back’s strength. He may struggle slightly in producing quality from wide areas but his lightning speed in defence makes him a very tough opponent for wingers to crack.

Richard Dunne: 7
Improving with every game and has yet to concede a goal in a QPR shirt in three appearances. He’s vulnerable to pace, as shown when Jermaine Beckford breezed past him in the first half, but he’s a great organiser and dovetails very well with Nedum Onuoha.

Nedum Onuoha: 8
Solid as a rock. He successfully marked a very disappointing Beckford out of the game with his brilliant defensive awareness and strength. Also made a very clever, yet cynical foul late on, when Bolton were cranking up the pressure.

Clint Hill: 7
Far from perfect but his willingness to overlap and deliver from the flank won his side the match. His assist was one of many delicious crosses he swung over. His spirit and commitment to the cause is proving infectious.

Gary O’Neil: 7
A tireless full debut from the former West Ham man. Ran himself into the ground on the right flank, but lacked the creative spark needed in the final third. Individually he doesn’t shine but his energy makes him a key team player.

Joey Barton: 6
Never really stamped his class on proceedings but made up for his appalling passing with a disciplined and gutsy terrier-like performance.

Karl Henry: 8
Superb from the midfield enforcer, who was in his element during this scrappy encounter. Dominated in the tackle and his shrewd passing kept things ticking over.

Shaun Wright-Phillips: 6
Failed to build on an encouraging showing last week. He still looks confused when charged with taking on his man and awkward when running in full flow. His work rate is commendable though and goes unnoticed.

Charlie Austin: 6
This wasn’t his day. Worked hard but didn’t receive the required service. Clearly agitated and was booked for an altercation with Marc Tierney.

Andy Johnson: 7
Like Austin, he buzzed around showing great application but chances were at a premium – until the winning goal, which he took in typical Johnson fashion.

Bobby Zamora: 6
Replaced Austin with 20 minutes remaining and was charged with holding the ball in the opposition half. That’s his forte, but it was hardly an inspiring cameo.
