QPR v Ipswich player ratings

QPR maintained their encouraging start to the season, with youngster Tom Hitchcock’s last-minute winner giving them all three points at Loftus Road. Here’s how we rated the players in their dramatic victory against Ipswich.

Robert Green: 7
Didn’t put a foot wrong but had to deal with little. When required though, he was at his best, denying Daryl Murphy with a brilliant fingertip save in the first half.

Danny Simpson: 6
Grew as the game went on after a very shaky opening 30 minutes. His poor crossing is becoming a worry though.

Richard Dunne: 6
Commanding presence who is clearly nowhere near full match-fitness yet. Made to looks unsure on a couple of occasions by David McGoldrick but responded well with some crowd-pleasing robust challenges.

Nedum Onuoha: 7
Another strong showing. Quick to spot danger and dynamic with his defending. The classy customer is becoming QPR’s new leader.

Clint Hill: 6
Hard to fault his endeavour and commitment on his 100th league start for the R’s. Luckily for him, Town winger Carlos Edwards was never given the licence or space to really test Hill’s dwindling pace down the left. Should have put Rangers ahead with a header but fluffed his lines.

Shaun Wright-Phillips: 7
Frustrating, as he possesses the gears to cause carnage at Championship level but looks reluctant to use them. There were snippets of quality, including his part in the goal and a delightful ball he played to Charlie Austin when the striker smacked the bar. Has a big part to play now Junior Hoilett is injured.

Karl Henry: 6
Tireless and tidy but pretty ineffective. Keeps it simple, which is his job, but his slow, predictable passing isn’t a help to QPR when trying to build momentum.

Joey Barton: 8
Many fans have seemingly forgiven him and he’s repaying them with some all-action displays. He relished being switched into the heart of the midfield, showing great tenacity and clever passing which drove his side forward. His delivery from set-pieces was excellent as he bossed the game.

Junior Hoilett: 7
Limped off with a hamstring injury on 54 minutes but before that had shown glimpses of his ability to beat defenders. Looks set to be out for weeks rather than months but he’ll still be missed, especially away from home.

Bobby Zamora: 5
Slow, predictable and provided no threat whatsoever. Produced some neat stuff with his back to goal but looks scared of his own shadow when challenged with an attacking opening. Such was the limited effect he had on proceedings he was replaced by a 20-year-old debutant.

Charlie Austin: 7
Missed chances he usually scores in his sleep but kept on grafting. His willingness paid off for the winning goal, when his shot was blocked before the rebound fell to Tom Hitchcock.

Gary O’Neil: 7
Looked full of energy after replacing Hoilett, instigating some swift Rangers attacks with an array of sharp, momentum-building passing.

Jermaine Jenas: 6
Perhaps unfortunate not to start after a decent cameo at Huddersfield, but he never had time to stamp his authority on this game.

Tom Hitchcock: 7
He couldn’t have scripted his QPR debut any better, tapping home the winner in front of the Loft. The goal could be his greatest moment in a Rangers shirt though, as striking reinforcements are on their way.
