Middlesex set for resounding win at Lord’s
Close, day two: Durham 143 & 171 v Middlesex 168 & 103-2
Middlesex 3pts, Durham 3pts
Middlesex again trampled through Durham’s batting line-up at Lord’s and ended day two 44 runs short of victory.
Graham Onions’ 7-62 meant that after resuming their first innings on 126-5, the hosts only reached 168.
But Durham again struggled with the bat – not least because of the fine bowling of Steven Finn, Ollie Rayner and Tim Murtagh – and managed to post only 171 before Middlesex progressed to 103-2.
The were 41-2 after Sam Robson managed only six before he edged Chris Rushworth to third slip and Joe Denly (32) fell to Onions when he was caught at cover.
But Adam Voges (36) and Eoin Morgan (24) put Middlesex within sight of a victory that would move them above Durham into third place in the County Championship.
