Brentford sign Spanish full-back Venta
Brentford have pulled off a coup by signing experienced full-back Javi Venta from Spanish side Villarreal.
The 37-year-old has agreed a one-year contract at Griffin Park, which could be extended if he plays a certain number of games for the Bees.
The Spaniard left Villarreal this summer after played almost 200 games in La Liga across two spells.
He was involved as Villareal reached the Champions League semi-finals in 2006 and Uefa Cup semi-finals in 2004.
Mark Warburton, Brentford’s sporting director, said: “This is a signing that brings a wealth of experience and ability to the squad.
“Javi has been first choice right back at Villarreal and has played at the highest level.
“He is moving his family over and that shows the commitment he has to the club.
“This is a very different signing. We hope this signing sends out a message to the fans.”
