Warnock blames boots for DJ injury
Neil Warnock has blamed ‘carpet-slipper’ boots for a foot injury that could keep DJ Campbell out until Christmas.
The QPR manager confirmed the striker has a suspected broken metatarsal that may need an operation, after Campbell missed his side’s 1-1 draw at home to Blackburn.
The injury sustained in a practice match on Thursday could put him out for as long as eight weeks, and Warnock has put the accident down to the former Blackpool man’s choice of footwear.
Warnock said; “Don’t talk to me about these boots. They’re like carpet slippers – I think it’s these stupid boots [that caused the injury].
“You can’t ban people if they prefer them but I think they are absolutely stupid boots to wear at the level we’re talking about. They give you no support at all.”
Warnock added that he “couldn’t fault” his players after they were once again unable to pick up a first win in the Premier League at Loftus Road after a 15-year absence.
Following the 6-0 thrashing away to Fulham in their last outing, Warnock maintained the draw was a good result.
He said: “I thought they tried hard today, coming on from that defeat in the last game.
“The main thing I am so disappointed with was the goal we conceded. You have to make teams earn the right to score a goal and if you can’t mark a man at a corner for a free header then there is something wrong.”
