Everton appointing Mark Hughes would be ‘suicide’ warns Barton

Joey Barton has warned Everton that appointing Mark Hughes would be ‘suicide’.

Former QPR manager Hughes has been touted as a contender to replace Everton boss David Moyes, who is set to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.

But Barton, who is on loan at Marseille having been frozen out by Hughes at Loftus Road, does not believe the Welshman would be a worthy replacement for Moyes.

Barton, a lifelong Everton fan, tweeted: “Worried about what happens at EFC, if/when Moyes leaves. Mark Hughes would be suicide! Not capable of following DM IMO. Martinez? Maybe.”

The midfielder added: “Everton would have been scrapping away near the foot of the table for last 11 years, had it not been for Moyes. He’s done a great job.

“As an Evertonian, if he goes, its with regret but with thanks for the great job he has done. Everton will prevail. We always do. #NSNO.

“I know Moyes has cultivated a culture within EFC of former players and trusted staff. Almost like the old LFC boot room philosophy.

“Consisting of Alan Stubbs and Duncan Ferguson amongst others. Maybe, they can find someone from within who has the club at heart? #efc”
