Eagles are beaten by champions London
Ruislip Eagles were unable to stop London GD clinching the National Super 8 Handball League title, losing 27-23 to them at the Bethnal Green Academy.
The home side led 4-2 after nine minutes and by half-time the Eagles had only managed to score eight.
But they battled back and with 10 minutes remaining reduced the deficit to 23-20 to set up an exciting finish.
However, unforced errors from the visitors late in the match helped London secure victory and the title.
“Congrats to the champions, London GD! They performed at their best to win the London derby,” said Eagles manager Marc Fayemi.
“Although it was not enough, our team performance was overall fine. But many individual mistakes cost us.
“We need to bounce back from this defeat – our first in 2013 – as we still have key games to play and win.”
Indeed, second spot position in the National league is still reachable as well as the EHA Cup final.
