Saunders keen to use his experience
Sam Saunders is aiming to use his experience to help Brentford’s young squad during their hunt for automatic promotion.
With seven games remaining, the Bees find themselves within two points of the League One summit and their return to form has coincided with Saunders’ own resurgence.
“It’s great to be back in the side as it’s something I’ve craved all season,” he told West London Sport.
“We need the more experienced players like myself at this time of year. I think I’m the second oldest in the squad now.
“Some of the lads have been disappointed with performances but myself and the other experienced lads are trying to keep them calm and remind them it’s the points that matter at this stage of the season.
“We are trying to create that calm environment because we’ve got a young squad. I think if we can win five or six of our remaining games that should see us go up.”
He added: “I feel I’ve taken the opportunity given to me by the manager and it’s really satisfying.
“I’m waking up on matchdays with a real buzz again – I’m like a kid at Christmas.”
